Rubies are primarily found in metamorphic rocks like marble and schist, formed under high pressure and temperature conditions. Historically, Myanmar (formerly Burma), particularly the Mogok region, has been the most famous source of fine rubies, known for their rich red color and fluorescence. Other important sources include Mozambique, Madagascar, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. 

Emeralds are primarily found in geological formations where beryl crystals form, often in hydrothermal veins within volcanic deposits or granite. Colombia is the world's leading producer of emeralds, with significant mining areas in Muzo, Coscuez, and Chivor. Other notable emerald sources include Zambia, Brazil, and countries like Russia, Australia, and Ethiopia.
