Mystic rainbow topaz, also known as mystic topaz, is a natural topaz gemstone that has been treated or enhanced to have a rainbow of iridescent colors. The process for creating mystic topaz was developed in the late 1990s by a US company using a proprietary technique called chemical vapors disposition (CVD). CVD involves applying a thin layer of titanium to the underside, or pavilion, of a colorless or white topaz gemstone. The coating treatment makes the stone more desirable and creates the eye-catching variety of colors.
