Marcasite occurs naturally in sedimentary environments, such as coal seams, shales, and limestone, where it forms in acidic waters. Key geological locations for true marcasite include the chalk cliffs of Dover (England) and Pas-de-Calais (France), as well as Spain and Kansas.
