Malachite is a vibrant green basic copper carbonate mineral formed through the oxidation of copper deposits. It serves as a secondary mineral often found alongside azurite and chrysocolla in the upper oxidized zones of copper mines. Historically and currently, major sources include the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Namibia, Russia's Ural Mountains, Australia, and the U.S. (Arizona).
