Lake Superior Agates are ancient, iron-stained quartz gemstones formed by volcanic activity 1.1 billion years ago and spread by glaciers. Famous for their rich red, orange, and yellow bands, they are widely sought after by rockhounds and are the official state gemstone of Minnesota.
