Kyanite, also known as cyanite, is an aluminum-rich silicate mineral that forms in aluminum-rich sediments that have been exposed to high temperatures and pressure. It can also be found in igneous rocks like granite. The name kyanite comes from the Greek word kuanos or kyanos, which means "deep blue". This is because the crystals of the mineral often have a sky-blue to deep blue color.
