Iron tiger eye, also known as tiger iron, is primarily mined in South Africa and Western Australia, and both deposits are over 2 billion years old. Other notable deposits are in Brazil, England, Mexico, the USA (Lake Superior area), and Zambia.

Tiger iron is an altered rock made up of tiger's eye, red jasper, and black hematite. It's known for its contrasting bands of color and luster, and is often used in jewelry and ornamentation.
