Chrysocolla is a hydrous copper silicate mineral that forms in the oxidized zones of copper ore deposits, frequently occurring with malachite, azurite, and quartz. Named from the Greek chrysos (gold) and kolla (glue) by Theophrastus in 315 B.C., it was historically used as a soldering agent for gold. Major deposits exist globally, including the USA (Arizona), Israel (Eilat), Chile, and the DRC.
