Bloodstone, a dark green variety of chalcedony (quartz) with red iron oxide spots, comes from various global locations, primarily India, which is a major source, along with significant deposits in Australia, Brazil, China, and the United States. It forms as nodules or veins in volcanic or sedimentary rocks, often appearing as river pebbles, and is known historically as heliotrope.
