Black onyx, a cryptocrystalline form of silica (quartz), originates from hydrothermal veins and gas cavities in lava, predominantly sourced from India, South America (Brazil, Argentina), Australia, and the United States. Historically linked to ancient Rome, Greece, and Egypt, it is a variety of chalcedony with parallel bands, often treated to enhance its deep black color.
