Baltic amber is fossilized tree resin that comes from the Baltic region, with the largest deposits found around the Baltic Sea in countries like Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Kaliningrad Oblast (Russia). It originated from ancient conifer trees that existed 40–60 million years ago, and today over 90% of the world's supply comes from this area.
Carnelian was first mined in ancient India, likely near Gujarat, and potentially in the Arabian Peninsula and Egypt's Nubian Desert, with early sources possibly in Yemen and Sardinia. Its name derives from Latin, referencing its flesh-like or cornel fruit-like color, and has been used for jewelry and amulets since ancient Sumerian and Egyptian times, with early beads found in Bulgaria and Pakistan.
