African turquoise originates from various African countries, primarily Namibia, South Africa, Mali, and Egypt. It is not true turquoise but a variety of jasper, a microcrystalline quartz that is mined across the continent. Its name and appearance come from its green and blue-green colors, which are due to copper compounds and other mineral inclusions within the jasper.
